The Everglades Foundation Congratulates Florida Senate for Bi-Partisan Passage of EAA Reservoir Legislation

The Everglades Foundation CEO Eric Eikenberg today issued the following statement praising the Florida Senate for passing Senate Bill 10, sponsored by Senator Rob Bradley (R-Fleming Island). SB 10 will now go to the Florida House of Representatives for consideration.

“The passage of SB 10 today by the Senate is a positive and science-based step toward the restoration of America’s Everglades, and we praise the Florida Senate for passing this good bill out of their chamber.

“This plan will significantly reduce the amount of harmful discharges from Lake Okeechobee that have long caused destruction along the east and west coasts of Florida. It will also allow for a significant amount of water to be stored, cleaned and moved south into the Everglades and Florida Bay where it is needed.

“Countless Floridians, including anglers, realtors and business leaders, spoke up about a major water problem plaguing our state, and the passage of this bill lets them know their voices were heard.

“We thank Senator Rob Bradley for sponsoring the bill and acknowledging a water crisis anywhere in Florida is a water crisis everywhere in Florida.

“We commend Senate President Joe Negron for his tireless work for a solution to this long-standing and health-threatening problem.”
