Fishing and Boating
Everglades fishing is for anglers who really want to get away, and enjoy fishing in unspoiled locations. - Angler Web.com
Tarpon, redfish, speckled trout, snook, amberjack, barracuda, largemouth bass, snapper and catfish are just a few of the many fresh and salt-water fish that can be caught within the Everglades ecosystem. Biscayne Bay, the Ten Thousand Islands, Florida Bay and Lake Okeechobee are among the region's many locations that are internationally known among sport and recreational anglers.
Whether you enjoy fishing from shore, a canoe or a power boat, the Everglades region offers a wide variety of experiences for both beginner and experienced anglers. One of the most satisfying times for seafood lovers is stone crab season which runs from mid-October until mid-May. A favorite visitor attraction is the blessing of the stone crab fleet at the historic Rod and Gun Club in Everglades City.
Some areas of the Everglades are closed to motorboating. These restrictions are in place for an important reason. For example, with the exception of Carl Ross Key, Little Rabbit Key, North Nest Key and Bradley Key (during daylight hours only) all keys and beaches in Florida Bay are closed to protect nesting and rookery areas. While there are some limits to boating and fishing, residents and visitors will find ample opportunities to do both throughout the Everglades ecosystem which reaches from Central Florida to the southern tip of the state.
It should be understood that those who enjoy fishing and boating conduct these activities in ways that are sustainable. Awareness of no-wake zones and adherence to fishing regulations, including size and catch limits, allows everyone to continue to enjoy this unique marine and wildlife habitat.
