Essential No. 9—Improve the State and Federal Partnership
The Problem
Ensuring that the protection and enhancement of the Everglades ecosystem remains a top priority in Washington, D.C., and Tallahassee. Continuing to keep the public aware of, and build support for, scientific research, government policies and corporate activities aimed at meeting short and long-term goals for the protection and enhancement of the Everglades ecosystem.
The Solution
A renewed focus on the Everglades in Washington and Tallahassee has set the stage for major improvements to the Everglades ecosystem.
The Everglades Foundation, the environmental community and supporters of the Everglades applaud the work that has been done by leaders in Washington, D.C., and Tallahassee. At the same time, we must continually remind those charged with setting environmental policy that much work remains. It is vital that we continue to move forward with legislation and policies that will accomplish the ultimate goal of returning the Everglades ecosystem to a natural wonder that allows both humans and nature to thrive.
We can accomplish these objectives by:
- Continuing scientific research.
- Building coalitions of environmental, corporate and government leaders.
- Increasing public awareness of the ongoing needs to improve the Everglades ecosystem.
- Educating Floridians about the importance of Everglades to the state’s economy and well-being.
