Restore America's Everglades - While It's Still Possible

There are simply too few natural ecosystems on planet Earth - the Brazilian rainforest, the Indonesian archipelago and America's Everglades among them - with the potential to truly preserve biodiversity while sustaining a fragile balance with human development. From the time they are born, our future generations are in a race against time to preserve these great treasures.

The majestic Everglades once covered virtually the entire Southern Florida peninsula. Today, scarred, polluted and encroached by development from all directions, the Everglades remains a two-million acre expanse of rich plant and animal habitat. It is the single source of freshwater that not only sustains millions of people in coastal communities, but vast wetlands, coastal estuaries and coral reefs.

America's Everglades is a singular United States ecosystem. For decades, historic restoration efforts have been underway to reverse the damage, halt the encroachment and return the Glades to a more natural functioning state. It is a complex process engaging various scientific disciplines, involving constant intervention with federal and state authorities who have pledged $11 billion toward the effort and appealing to communities and land owners to become better Everglades stewards.

The Everglades Foundation is an inclusive group of dedicated, like-minded people who combine the understanding, resources and commitment to advance Everglades restoration. Make no mistake. It is a do-or-die effort requiring concerted and constant action over the next 30 years. Won't you join us? Brief yourself and choose how you might help preserve the timeless biological wonder that is America's Everglades.

WHY DONATE?

Everglades restoration is an exceptionally complex process:

  • Engaging dozens of scientific disciplines in cutting edge research
  • Involving constant intervention with federal and state authorities who have pledged $11 billion toward the effort over 30 years
  • Appealing to communities, land owners and the public to become better Everglades stewards

Each year, the Everglades Foundation invests more than $1 million in grants to partnering organizations that comprise the Environmental Advisory Council (EAC). Grants range from $10,000 to $450,000. Our partners drive immediate and specific solutions to key issues raised in Foundation scientific briefings and weekly teleconferences. Your contributions make it possible for the Foundation to take action!

The Everglades Foundation’s promise is that 100 percent of each donation goes to directly support programs to restore the Everglades.  Donations provide scientists, policy analysts, researchers, communications experts and other professionals with the resources to stay on top of the complex issues involved in saving the River of Grass. Grants are also made to great organizations that collaborate on a variety of Everglades restoration programs where the Foundation can benefit from their resources and expertise ranging from research to advocacy.  The Foundation can make this promise because administrative and fund raising expenses are covered separately and entirely each year by its Board of Directors.

The Everglades Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Donations are tax deductible.

FOREVERGLADES BENEFIT

The excitement is palpable each year.  Conservation leaders, celebrities, community activists, federal and state lawmakers, captains of industry and eminent scientists converge at a one-of-a-kind South Florida social event to benchmark progress in Everglades restoration hosted by the Foundation.

No Everglades restoration benefit is bigger than the annual FOREVERGLADES benefit, scheduled annually in February at the renowned Palm Beach Breakers Hotel.

Corporate sponsorship opportunities abound – at once raising a company’s profile to that of a leader in ecosystem restoration and engaging its executives into the dialogue for change.  To explore your company’s involvement in Everglades Foundation events, schedule a face-to-face visit with its representatives by calling Susan Ervin at (305) 251-0001, ext. 223. For more information on the ForEverglades Benefit, visit: www.evergladesbenefit.org.

PLANNED GIVING

Each year, hundreds of individuals, either because of deep personal commitment or their sense of life’s enduring continuum, make substantial gifts that far exceed commitments of support.  As the Everglades Foundation tackles additional restoration projects that require an operating budget of more than $5 million, these generous contributions are welcomed.  Staff is specially trained to counsel the attorneys, financial advisors, trust officers and other professionals who coordinate these gifts, to customize a plan of involvement focused on Everglades restoration activities and to recognize individuals accordingly.
