Position Title: Everglades Education & Outreach Director

Department: Administration

Reports to: Executive Vice President

Nature of Work

The Everglades Education & Outreach Director will be responsible for the planning of activities to engage donors, government and business leaders, the media and members of the community in the work of the Everglades Foundation. The primary focus of this effort will be the coordination of an ambitious schedule of comprehensive, science-oriented tours and educational briefings throughout the Greater Everglades ecosystem. The employee will rely on a network of scientists, National Park Service (NPS) rangers/interpreters, volunteers, members of partner non-governmental organizations and co-workers to create a successful Everglades education and outreach program.

Responsibilities

· Promote understanding of and support for the Everglades Foundation's mission by engaging donors (80%), policymakers (10%) and other opinion leaders (10%) through events, Everglades tours, briefings and social functions.

· Develop and manage a comprehensive tour and briefing program, targeted to priority donor communities around the state and prepare a companion checklist of necessary "to-do" items.

· Engage board members and Foundation staff in planning events and recruiting and briefing participants.

· Provide guidance and support to Foundation staff in all matters relating to public and community relations programs, presentations, briefings and tours of the Everglades.

· Cultivate leaders of stakeholder groups (business, sporting, civic, conservation and other groups) who share the Foundation's goals to engage them in efforts to promote Everglades restoration.

· Participate with other staff in preparing and updating an annual strategic plan and budget that supports the Foundation's goals and objectives.

· Identify, recruit and maintain a roster of NPS rangers/interpreters, local naturalists and scientists who can assist on tours and speak at events or briefings as experts in a range of Everglades-related scientific disciplines.

· Identify, visit and maintain a list of potential sites around the state that exhibit the beauty, diversity and range of issues facing the Everglades, its protection and restoration.

· Ensure that all tour and briefing logistics are completed in a timely manner to provide a high-quality experience for participants.

· Develop, maintain and distribute a calendar of tours, briefings and other outreach events for Everglades Foundation donors, policymakers and opinion leaders.

· Work with appropriate Foundation staff (CEO, Executive VP, VP of Development and others) to ensure there is adequate and timely follow-up with participants at events and that pertinent information is entered into the development database.

· Work with Senior Director of Communications in providing updated content for Foundation publications, websites and social networking platforms.

· Assist staff in other development and policy activities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Strong professional training in at least one of several key areas: science communications, events management, development or environmental education.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills.

· Excellent interpersonal skills.

· Strong planning and organizational skills.

· Ability to prepare and monitor program budgets.

· Knowledge of South Florida history, communities, prominent citizens and environmental issues is helpful.

Minimum Qualifications

· Graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor's degree.

· At least five years' professional experience in environmental work, events planning or management, development or communications.

· Spanish-language skills helpful, but not required.

· Experience with or involvement in environmental or other non-profit organizations useful.

Position Title: Development Assistant

Department: Development

Reports to: Vice President of Development

Nature of Work

The primary responsibility of the Development Assistant is to support the work of the Vice President of Development in all areas, including the annual fund, special events, administrative duties that include maintaining current records on donors to the organization, preparing reports based on current data and depositing contributions.

Responsibilities

• Assist the VP of Development in preparing an annual development plan.
• Assist the VP of Development in preparing the annual budget and strategic plan.
• Assist the VP of Development with reports to the Board of Directors.
• Deposit checks, enter all gift information daily to database, maintain current biographical data and prepare gift acknowledgment letters.
• Check on website donations, enter those in database and notify Communications of address.
• Prepare a daily batch statement, daily deposit reports and a weekly revenue report.
• Prepare monthly financial report and reconcile with EF Finance Office.
• Prepare separate report on responses to direct mail.
• Prepare weekly call schedules and keep records of calls in database.
• Maintain current mailing lists for Constant Contact and the EF printed newsletter.
• Secure and confirm appointments for the VP of Development as requested.
• Prepare information and do follow-up to all appointments, briefings or in-house meetings as called for in the checklist.
• Maintain the calendar of events for the Development Department.
• Prepare tickler reports on a weekly basis from the Moves Management system.
• Import and export data using appropriate filters.
• Draft correspondence to donors as requested.
• Assist the VP of Development with travel arrangements.
• Maintain annual state charitable registrations.
• Assist in creating the annual fund campaign.
• Assist with special events.

• Strong professional training in database management, composition and management.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong planning, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of South Florida history, communities, prominent citizens and environmental issues is helpful.
