Senator Joe Negron has shown steady and committed leadership in dealing with the environmental and economic crisis resulting from harmful Lake Okeechobee discharges.
As chairman of the Florida Senate Select Committee on Indian River Lagoon and Lake Okeechobee Basin, Senator Negron has worked closely with his committee colleagues to explore both short and long term solutions.
The Committee Report approved Tuesday acknowledges the need to provide additional water storage and the ability to move water south from Lake Okeechobee. The Central Everglades Planning Project provides much needed capacity to send water south. We encourage the committee’s continued push for the authorization and funding of the Central Everglades Planning Project, the C-43 and C-44 reservoirs and to expedite projects that will protect the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee Rivers, estuaries and America’s Everglades.
