About the position
The Southwest Florida Everglades Literacy Program Coordinator directly supports the mission of the Everglades Foundation by assisting the Education program with coordinating and carrying out the Everglades Literacy Program, which fosters Everglades literacy among elementary and secondary students throughout Florida. The Coordinator assists with the development and maintenance of grade-appropriate, multi-disciplinary curricula that are aligned to State of Florida educational standards and adopted by public schools, private schools, charter schools, parochial schools, and home-schools. The Everglades Literacy Program Coordinator will manage training of teachers to bring the curriculum into classrooms. The Coordinator also promotes Everglades literacy by building relationships and partnerships with universities, non-profits, and other organizations that advance environmental education.
The primary responsibilities of the Southwest Florida Everglades Literacy Program Coordinator are grouped into three areas: curriculum development, teacher training, and partner and community engagement.
Assist with the development and execution of the Everglades Curriculum and Teacher Training in Orange, Osceola, Hillsborough, and Pasco counties
Teacher Training and Champion Schools support
Facilitate teacher training agenda and process
Print and prepare materials for teacher trainings
Order and organize teacher training kits
Attend school events, environmental education events, career days, and guest teaching opportunities
Assist with data compiling, administrative and clerical duties, and various other tasks as requested by Vice President of Education and/or Education Manager
Assist with establishing recruitment process, school contact list, and identifying training venues
Maintain county training schedule
Manage teacher stipend process
Assist with teacher in-service credit procedures
Provide follow-up consultation to ensure lesson implementation by teachers who complete training
Assist with content management of Everglades social media as it relates to education, including blogs, Facebook, and Twitter posts
Assist with experiential experiences and learning activities for the Everglades Champion Schools Program
Help to recruit high quality teachers for trainers in the “Train the Trainer” program
Attend “Train the Trainer” workshop and events twice a year
Assist with the development of policies and procedures for the “Train the Trainer” program for effective implementation of teacher trainings and follow-up
Partner and Community Engagement
Attend local and regional conferences and meetings to promote the Everglades Literacy Program as needed
Establish partnerships with school districts and maintain communications to schedule teacher trainings
Development and Fundraising
Research, identify, engage, and cultivate new sources of support and funding opportunities for the Everglades Literacy Program in collaboration with the Director of Development& Events SWFL
Prepare grant applications
Partner with Director of Development & Events SWFLt in networking and community relations to assist in the development of key relationships and opportunities to advance
strategic objectives of the Everglades Literacy Program
Coordinate with Director of Development & Events SWFL on outreach and engagement opportunities, such as fairs/festivals, community events, and speaking opportunities
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of program management and development procedures
Knowledge of budgeting, bookkeeping, and reporting
Proficient in Microsoft Office, database management, email, internet use and research, etc.
Able to work with diverse and multi-disciplinary
Excellent time management and organizational skills

The Everglades Literacy Program Coordinator reports directly to the Vice President of Education and works closely with and under the guidance of the Education Program Manager.
Travel and Schedule
This position requires considerable local and regional travel. The Southwest Florida Everglades Literacy Program Coordinator may travel as much as 50% of the time. Additionally, the Everglades Literacy Program Coordinator is required to attend weekend and/or evening training sessions and other events that must be synchronized with the school calendar, which varies by county.
Masks are required in Foundation offices and on Foundation business. Employees are required to complete daily COVID screening before performing in-person work. The Foundation strongly encourages and may require employees to receive COVID-19 vaccines.

B.S. in education, environment, or related field required
Teacher certification and teaching experience preferred
Familiarity with and thorough understanding of Florida Education Standards
At least two years of experience in a program coordinator role or similar position
This position works where children regularly congregate and in accordance with Florida Statutes, applicants must pass criminal sexual predator and sexual offender background checks. Successful applicants will also be subject to local, state, and FBI background checks, including fingerprinting
$42,500 - $47,500 commensurate with experience
