On Friday, September 19th the Everglades Foundation and Florida Atlantic University/Pine Jog Environmental Education Center hosted a teacher workshop in collaboration with Miami-Dade County Public Schools Department of Advanced Academics.

Over 80 K-5 teachers of the gifted were in attendance from 25 different Miami-Dade County elementary schools. This workshop focused on the Everglades K-12 curriculum and Everglades Literacy Conceptual Framework.

Information was shared about our new Everglades Literacy initiative, what it means to be Everglades literate and why it is important. Teachers joined in one of the activities from the third grade lessons titled “Hurry for a Habitat”, where participants were asked to place plants and animals in their proper habitat. All Attendees took home a teacher tote with the materials to implement this lesson with their students.

We are very excited to offer teachers a free resource that is aligned to the Florida Standards. A resource, which will assure that our future, is Everglades Literate.
