Everglades Foundation CEO on passage of Water Resources Reform and Development Act

The protection and restoration of America’s Everglades moved a step forward today with overwhelming, bipartisan congressional support of the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA). Today’s vote by the U.S. House of Representatives allows Florida to move forward with the Comprehensive Everglades Planning Project, improvements of Biscayne Bay coastal wetlands, Broward County water preserve areas, and reimbursement to the state for construction of C-111 spreader canal in Miami Dade County.

The projects included in WRRDA will create jobs for Floridians, ease the burden of polluted water entering the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee Rivers, and improve water flow into the Everglades National Park and Florida Bay.

“Florida’s congressional delegation worked hard to ensure that our state is treated fairly in the new Water Resources Development Act,” said Eric Eikenberg, Everglades Foundation CEO. “Especially noteworthy were the bipartisan efforts of U.S. Reps. Dan Webster, Lois Frankel, Patrick Murphy, Trey Radel, Corrine Brown, Bill Posey and Debbie Wasserman Schultz.”
