The Everglades Foundation Mourns the Loss of Karl Wickstrom, Former Board Member and Everglades Advocate

The Everglades Foundation today remembers Karl Wickstrom, a former member of the board and a longtime advocate of Everglades restoration. Karl, founder of Florida Sportsman magazine, was a champion of clean water and the angling community. The Foundation extends its condolences to his family.

“Karl Wickstrom’s passion for America’s Everglades and the protection of Florida’s estuaries, waterways and fisheries was legendary.  He was an iconoclast who fought city hall and won.  He led the campaign for a gill net ban to protect our fisheries and was a champion for the St. Lucie estuary.  He understood the impact clean water has on our communities’ economy.  As the founder and publisher of Florida Sportsman, Karl’s leadership in rallying the recreational anglers to seek long-term solutions to our water challenges is his lasting legacy.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the Wickstrom family and Karl’s friends at this time of sorrow,” said Eric Eikenberg.
