The John Marshall Legacy
In 1997, following his retirement from the U.S. Marine Corps, John Arthur Marshall created the Arthur R. Marshall Foundation and Florida Environmental Institute in memory of his uncle Arthur R. Marshall. The Arthur R. Marshall Foundation, led by John and Nancy Marshall, soon established itself as a prominent voice for restoration of the Everglades. John created the Everglades Internship Program in 2002 as a unique program for undergraduate students to introduce them to Everglades science and advocacy, laying the foundation for a career in conservation. John passed away in 2016, and Nancy Marshall, his widow, is carrying on his legacy of educating future leaders by establishing the John Marshall Everglades Internship Program at The Everglades Foundation.
