DOUG HALSEY

Board Member

Douglas M. Halsey, an environmental and land use lawyer, has practiced law in Miami since 1979. He began his career at Paul & Thomson and then started his own firm, Halsey & Burns, in 1989, where he continued his practice of environmental and land use law. In 2000, he joined the international law firm of White & Case as a partner. There, he was head of the firm's global environmental practice at the time of his retirement from the firm in 2017. Since that time, he has continued his practice at Douglas M. Halsey, P.A., where he represents a select group of clients with complex environmental and land use legal problems.

With a BA from Columbia University in 1976 and JD, cum laude, from the University of Miami in 1979, Mr. Halsey has been admitted to practice law in Florida, New York and the District of Columbia. He also practices before the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida. During his legal studies, he was a research editor for the University of Miami Law Review. He has since published and spoken extensively on a variety of environmental and land use topics.

Equally involved in his community, Mr. Halsey has been a member of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society and the United Way of Miami-Dade County since 1995. A former chairman of the Children's Home Society of Florida and Foster Care Review, Inc., he also sat as a board member of Our Kids, Inc. A past board member of the Southampton History Museum, Mr. Halsey is a Trustee at the Bridgehampton Museum in Bridgehampton, New York.

An esteemed member of the Florida Bar, Mr. Halsey sat on the bar's environmental and land use law section as chairman between 1993 and 1994. Previously, the Florida Bar honored him with the President's Pro Bono Service Award in 1991.

Married to his wife Amy since 1976, Mr. Halsey has two children, Mark and Meredith, as well as four grandchildren: Henry, Haley, Heidi, and Maeve. Residing in Pinecrest, Florida, he enjoys golf, tennis and skiing in his spare time.
