Overview
Purpose
The Wahba Visiting Scholar in Economics program brings leading economists to advance Everglades restoration and protection, focusing on measurable links between the ecosystem and economic outcomes.
Program Type
Duration
Residential visiting scholar fellowship for economists.
Annually for 3 months January - March or the January – May semester.
Location
The Everglades Foundation office is in Palmetto Bay, Florida. We are located in Miami-Dade County, the heart of South Florida, within the Greater Everglades ecosystem.
Honorarium
Stipend for housing and salary up to $50,000 provided by the Wahba Science and Economics Scholar Endowment Fund at The Everglades Foundation.

Computer, software, research materials, and database access.

Objectives
The Wahba Visiting Scholar in Economics will:
Advance policy-relevant scholarship that guides restoration, sustainable development, and informs decision-makers.
Integrate economic analyses with environmental sciences and public policy to address Everglades restoration challenges.
Lead and facilitate interactions with key stakeholders and researchers.
Collaborate and/or publish with The Everglades Foundation in the future.
Program Components
RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT
Scholar collaborates with Foundation’s science and policy teams on a project aligned with areas of research.
SEMINARS
Economic workshop convening 5–10 economists to discuss and collaborate on research focus.
NETWORKING
On-site collaboration with seven in-house PhD scientists and other colleagues specializing in advocacy, policy, education, and communications.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Policy input and communication with decision-makers and Foundation audiences.

Areas of Research
Valuation of Everglades natural capital.
Federal agricultural policy and watershed management and restoration.
Measuring links between ecosystem health and regional economic activity.
Policy, tax, and financing dimensions of restoration and sustainable use.
Links between ecosystem protection and economic resilience/adaptation.
Eligibility
Who Can Apply
Tenured faculty at universities with expertise in Environmental, Natural Resource, and Ecological Economics; Urban and Regional Economics; Law and Economics; Agricultural Economics; Public Economics (Finance/Policy); Health Economics.
Requirements
Demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality, peer-reviewed research.
Graduate students and postdocs are not eligible.
Applicants must meet The Everglades Foundation employment requirements.
