Major: Environmental Studies
Project: Measuring the Resilience of the Picayune Strand Restoration Project to Fires, Hurricanes, and Droughts.
Hi! I'm Allison Goodwin, a junior at Florida Gulf Coast University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Ecology and Environmental Assessment. I am working in the Picayune Strand State Forest, using bioacoustics to monitor ecosystem health and restoration success. The Everglades is such a unique ecosystem, and I am most excited to assist in the recovery process of this one-of-a-kind region. For my own project, I am expanding this work to include studying chiropteran abundance and activity across Florida Gulf Coast University's extensive natural conservation areas, approximately half of our campus is conservation land. I love spending time outdoors, whether it's relaxing at the beach, camping, or hiking. The outdoors is where I feel most at home. My short-term goal is to gain additional hands-on experience in a professional setting, ideally through an international internship in inspiring locations like Costa Rica or Australia. My long-term goal is to work in wildlife rehabilitation and ecosystem restoration, helping to protect and recover vulnerable species and habitats.
