Everglades restoration is one of the largest and most ambitious ecosystem restoration efforts in the world. This critical endeavor spans decades of planning, dozens of interconnected projects, multiple state and federal agencies, and billions of dollars in investment. Understanding how these projects work, how they fit together, and, most importantly, how they are already delivering benefits to Florida’s people, wildlife, and economy can be a challenge.
That’s why today, The Everglades Foundation is launching Restoration Works!, a new video and blog series designed to make Everglades restoration tangible, accessible, and even fun. Hosted by Senior Restoration Scientist Dr. Erik Stabenau, the series takes viewers on a journey across the Sunshine State, exploring the science, history, and real-world impacts of the restoration projects helping to heal America’s Everglades.
But this isn’t your typical science explainer. Inspired by retro Florida postcards, Restoration Works! reimagines the way we tell the story of restoration, inviting audiences to “travel” across South Florida in an interactive website and discover how we’re fixing the mistakes of the past to create a future where nature and people can thrive side by side.
“Floridians have invested billions of dollars in Everglades restoration, and it’s fair to ask: Is it working?” said Begoñe Cazalis, Director of Communications at The Everglades Foundation, who led the project. “Restoration Works! is about answering that question by showing people where these projects are, how they work together, and how they impact our water, our communities, and our way of life.”
Across nine short episodes, Dr. Stabenau breaks down some of the most consequential restoration projects already delivering results, from reconnecting historic water flows and improving water quality, to restoring wildlife habitat and strengthening flood protection for South Florida communities. Each episode focuses on a specific project or critical restoration element, highlighting how infrastructure and smart water management work hand in hand to restore the River of Grass.

At the heart of the experience is the interactive Restoration Works! digital postcard map, where visitors can explore projects across Florida, watch videos, read blogs, and see how each effort fits into the bigger picture of restoring the largest subtropical wilderness in North America. It’s a hands-on way to connect the dots—and a reminder that restoration isn’t just planned for the future; it’s happening now.
So take a virtual trip across South Florida. Share it with your favorite Floridians. And discover how, here in the Sunshine State, Restoration Works!
