Tessa Whalen

Everglades Literacy Regional Coordinator - South Florida

Education

Tessa Whalen coordinates and implements education program functions that foster Everglades literacy among pre-K through 12th grade students. She assists the Foundation's Everglades Literacy team with curriculum development, teacher training, and partner and community engagement.

Tessa brings to The Everglades Foundation her love of the water and outdoor experiences. After earning a bachelor’s degree in biology from Morehead State University (Morehead, KY), she served as a lifeguard, camp counselor, and outdoor educator. Most recently, she was a Marine Science Instructor and Unit Leader at “SEACAMP” in Big Pine Key, Florida. There, she created lesson plans and a classroom structure, supervised staff, and organized evening programs and staff events. She holds several certifications, including CPR, SCUBA, AED, and wilderness first aid, and has served as a volunteer with organizations including the Bimini Shark Lab, Key West Rotary Club and St. Peter Catholic Church.
