Tuesday, January 11, 2022 – The Everglades Foundation today issued the following statement attributed to its CEO Eric Eikenberg, regarding the opening day of the 2022 Legislative Session.

A New Legislative Session, A New Opportunity

“This session represents an opportunity to fulfill the next installment in funding for Everglades restoration and to continue to preserve and protect our state’s one-of-a-kind environmental treasure.

“Thanks to our state’s leadership in the Governor and the Legislature, Florida is continuing to move forward and make real progress toward restoring our Everglades.

“That progress can be built upon this session with continued funding for the restoration of America’s Everglades, for which the Governor recommended $660 million, and by safeguarding the Everglades Protection Area by passing Senate Bill 932, by State Senator Ana Maria Rodriguez, and House Bill 729, by State Representative Vance Aloupis.

Linking Economy and Environment for Florida’s Future

“Florida’s economy and the environment are inextricably linked. As the legislative session begins, we encourage the support of this needed funding and legislation that will keep Florida on the right path toward restoration.”
