A Legacy of Conservation: Tom Davidson Sr. Inducted into the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame

The International Game Fish Association (IGFA) has inducted Tom Davidson Sr. into its Fishing Hall of Fame, recognizing a lifetime dedicated to conservation, scientific discovery, and the future of recreational fisheries. For The Everglades Foundation, the honor is a fitting tribute to a Board member whose leadership has helped advance Everglades restoration and science-based conservation for more than two decades.

“Tom Davidson is a visionary leader whose dedication to science and Everglades restoration has set a remarkable standard for conservation,” said The Everglades Foundation CEO Eric Eikenberg. “His support for rigorous research, particularly into the causes of fishery declines, and his advocacy for clean water initiatives have helped drive meaningful progress. We are privileged to have him serve on the Board of Directors of The Everglades Foundation for more than 20 years, where his passionate advocacy and scientific approach continue to inspire our work to restore and protect the Everglades. I can think of no one more deserving of this prestigious honor.”
The IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame recognizes extraordinary achievements in recreational fishing worldwide by anglers, captains, scientists, conservationists, writers, and fishing industry leaders. Since its first class was inducted in 1998, the Hall of Fame has honored five new individuals each year through a rigorous selection process, celebrating those whose contributions have left a lasting impact on the sport and the resources that sustain it.

Davidson's induction reflects more than a distinguished career. It recognizes a legacy of leadership that has helped shape the future of fisheries conservation. A successful business executive and former Canadian Entrepreneur of the Year, Davidson founded and led multiple companies across North America and Europe before dedicating his expertise and passion to conservation initiatives that continue to benefit anglers and ecosystems alike.
In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of The Everglades Foundation, Davidson has served on the Florida Keys Marine Sanctuary Advisory Board and as VP Director of Sanctuary Friends of the Florida Keys. Throughout his conservation work, he has championed the importance of scientific research as the foundation for effective stewardship and management.
Among his most influential contributions is the founding of Bonefish & Tarpon Trust (BTT). What began as an effort to better understand declining bonefish populations in the Florida Keys has grown into a leading conservation organization dedicated to advancing fisheries science and translating research into meaningful conservation outcomes. Through partnerships with scientists, anglers, guides, and resource managers, BTT has helped expand understanding of flats fisheries and the habitats they depend upon.
Davidson's commitment to science-based conservation closely aligns with the mission of The Everglades Foundation. For more than 20 years, he has helped guide the organization's efforts to restore and protect America's Everglades, recognizing the vital connection between clean water, healthy ecosystems, and thriving fisheries.
