Gulfshore Life featured The Everglades: Beneath the Surface, an award-winning short documentary produced by The Everglades Foundation. The six-minute film follows National Geographic Explorer, photographer, and The Everglades Foundation Board Member Mac Stone as he travels across the Everglades by helicopter, boat, and on foot to capture its landscapes, wildlife, and waterways.
Through Mac’s lens, viewers experience the connection between the Everglades watershed and Florida’s coast, including the annual mullet migration and the web of wildlife it supports. The film shows how clean freshwater flowing south from a healthy Everglades sustains wildlife and strengthens the resilience of coastal communities.
The feature explores how films like Beneath the Surface are expanding the way audiences see and understand the Everglades. By sharing the ecosystem’s lesser-known stories, we are using visual storytelling to inspire a deeper connection to this extraordinary landscape and the need to protect it.
