The Everglades Foundation is proud to announce that our Communications team has earned a 2025 regional Suncoast Emmy® Award in the Environment/Science Short Form Content category for our short documentary, The Everglades: Beneath the Surface. This marks the Foundation’s second Suncoast Emmy®, following the 2024 win in the Public Affairs – Series category for Everglades Stories from Across the Watershed

The Everglades: Beneath the Surface follows National Geographic Explorer and The Everglades Foundation Board Member Mac Stone as he journeys across the Everglades watershed – by helicopter, boat, and on foot – to reveal a hidden natural phenomenon along Florida’s east coast.

Each year, one of the world’s largest animal migrations passes through Everglades waters, largely unnoticed by the people who live alongside it. Through Stone’s immersive lens, viewers are brought into swirling schools of prey and predator, witnessing a breathtaking and ancient spectacle that depends on clean water flowing south from a healthy Everglades.

The film highlights the vital connection between the Everglades watershed and Florida’s urban estuaries, emphasizing how restoration efforts are essential for wildlife and the resilience of coastal communities. This Emmy® recognition reflects the power of visual storytelling to inspire action, uplifting our mission to protect and restore this irreplaceable ecosystem for generations to come.
