Blue Shanty Flow Way Project Agreement Signed

July 21, 2026 Today, the State of Florida and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers celebrated a major milestone to advance Everglades restoration with the signing of a unique Project Partnership Agreement for state construction of the final EAA Reservoir component (a seepage management pump station) and the Blue Shanty Flow Way Project. 

With federal funds, the State of Florida will be able to advance construction of these features to line up with the completion of the construction of the EAA Reservoir by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 2029 and have the Blue Shanty components ready to use to fully send water south.

The Blue Shanty Flow Way is a vital piece of the Central Everglades Planning Project. When complete, miles of old roadbed and levees will have been removed and wetland connectivity restored, allowing much needed clean freshwater to flow into Everglades National Park and Florida Bay.

This signing event comes one year after the State of Florida, and the U.S. Department of the Army signed a new agreement to accelerate the restoration of America’s Everglades on July 18, 2025.

By advancing the Reservoir and the Blue Shanty Flow Way in tandem, the state and federal governments are ensuring that vital components of the Central Everglades Planning Project will be ready to send clean freshwater south to Everglades National Park and Florida Bay,” said Eric Eikenberg, Chief Executive Officer at The Everglades Foundation.

“These projects further enhance ecosystem benefits by reducing harmful discharges to our coastal estuaries and protecting the drinking water supply for millions of Floridians. Today further underscores that when strong state and federal leadership work together, America's Everglades and Florida's clean water economy both come out ahead."
