Palmetto Bay, Fla. – The Everglades Foundation today released the following statement, attributed to its CEO Eric Eikenberg, on Governor Ron DeSantis recommending that over $810 million go toward Everglades restoration in the 2026-27 fiscal year budget.
“Governor Ron DeSantis, in his eighth budget recommendation, has once again recommended that the state fully fund Everglades restoration and allocate over $810 million toward it.
“This level of funding will ensure that the momentous progress the state of Florida has made on restoring America’s Everglades will continue, so that Floridians and our economy can realize its benefits.
“Governor DeSantis has been an Everglades advocate from the start, issuing an executive order on his second day in office, committing $2.5 billion over four years for water quality and Everglades projects. Then in his second term, he signed another executive order renewing and increasing his funding commitment to $3.5 billion over the next four years. The goal for the first term was exceeded with $3.3 billion invested, and Florida is on pace to exceed the second term commitment as well.
“Thank you, Governor, for continuing to promote investments in this critical state resource.”
