The Everglades Foundation applauds today’s joint announcement by Governor Ron DeSantis and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that the State of Florida and the Federal governments have reached an agreement to expedite the construction of the EAA Reservoir for completion by 2029.

Since 2016, The Everglades Foundation has been vocal on the need to expedite this crown jewel project that will store, clean, and send water south to America’s Everglades and provide a significant reduction of harmful discharges. America’s Everglades is a $1 trillion-dollar asset that provides $31 billion in economic benefits each year. The expedited completion of the EAA Reservoir will accelerate Florida’s clean water economy and support tourism, outdoor recreation, and real estate economies.

This critical plan to shave off five years will require significant resources, and we look forward to supporting Florida’s bipartisan Congressional Delegation to achieve this imperative goal. We thank Governor DeSantis and Army Corps leadership and applaud the 25-year partnership between the State of Florida and the United States Army Corps of Engineers.

- Bradley Watson, Vice President of Government Affairs, The Everglades Foundation
