JOHN MARSHALL

EVERGLADES INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The Everglades Foundation's John Marshall Everglades Internship Program has partnered with Florida International University's Coastal Ecosystems Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Site program. The REU is a 10-week paid research fellowship located on the campuses of Florida International University in Miami, Fla. This year's program runs from May 22 to July 28, 2023. The hands-on, immersive research opportunity supports students in developing and conducting an independent Everglades research project in collaboration with a research team made up of Everglades Foundation staff, FIU faculty, and graduate students’ mentors.

The interns also will meet with high-level stakeholders, policymakers, and local business leaders to discuss their roles in Everglades restoration, and to understand the federal and state policies that continue to drive restoration of America’s Everglades – the largest ecosystem restoration project in the world.

Upon completion of the John Marshall Everglades Internship program, the students will have gained an in-depth understanding of the history of the Everglades, its environmental challenges, its connection to Florida’s economy, and the solutions for restoration, all of which will benefit their future careers.

"I had some fears of going into the Everglades...I think people think the Everglades is a scary place when it's just a part of Florida, a treasure that's unseen.
