Everglades Foundation Statement on Governor DeSantis Signing FY20-21 Budget with Funding for the Environment & Water Resources
Palmetto Bay, Fla. – The Everglades Foundation today released the following statement, attributed to its CEO Eric Eikenberg, thanking Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for signing the Fiscal Year 2020-2021 budget with more than $625 million for the environment and water resources.
“On behalf of The Everglades Foundation, I thank Governor DeSantis for signing a budget with more than $625 million for the environment and water resources, including $322 million for Everglades restoration. This critical water infrastructure funding will advance restoration of our Everglades, create much-needed jobs, boost our state’s tourism-based economy and yield tangible health benefits for Floridians.
“As our economy recovers from the effects of a global pandemic, the last thing we need is another toxic blue-green algae and red tide crisis, both of which have negative impacts on human health and cause respiratory issues. This funding has always been important, but it is more important now as we deal with the Coronavirus and its devastating health and economic impacts.”
