Official Statement on President Biden’s budget request of $415 million for Everglades restoration by The Everglades Foundation CEO Eric Eikenberg.
“We appreciate President Biden’s continued support of Everglades restoration as evidenced by today’s funding request, and we urge Congress to meet or exceed this recommendation. Washington’s continued commitment to restore America’s Everglades is critical to enhance carbon sequestration, protect drinking water for millions, and support water-driven communities and economies.
Importantly, this commitment will help ensure that progress toward completion of the EAA Reservoir – the ‘crown jewel’ of Everglades restoration – continues without delay.”
Why is the EAA Reservoir Important for Everglades Restoration?
The Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir is the only project that will reconnect Lake Okeechobee to Florida Bay and allow clean freshwater to flow south as nature intended. Watch to learn why this project, which is part of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP), is so pivotal for everglades Restoration.
