"The Everglades Foundation opposes the construction of a temporary facility at the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport, formerly known as the Everglades Jetport. Our own Founding Director, Nathaniel Reed, was involved in both defeating the proposed jetport and establishing Big Cypress National Preserve.
We are communicating with the state on an impact strategy to protect the natural areas from new pollutants introduced because of increased human activities on and around the site.
The Everglades Foundation has recommended Camp Blanding and Homestead Air Reserve Base as alternative sites due to their less sensitive locations, enhanced security, and existing infrastructure beyond a tarmac.
America's Everglades has a $1 trillion asset value and it supports Florida's robust real estate, tourism, and outdoor recreation industries. The Everglades Foundation remains both engaged with the state regarding this development and dedicated to restoring and protecting the Everglades."
